Nicole Stevenson

Nicole Stevenson creates richly textured mixed-media paintings inspired by coastal life and the enduring relationship between people and the sea. Her work reflects the atmosphere of shoreline communities, places shaped by weather, tides, and generations of lived experience, where a deep sense of connection to home and creativity continues to thrive.

Her work celebrates the beauty of handmade traditions and the importance of reusing and reimagining materials, drawing subtle parallels with practices of mending, patchwork, and craftsmanship.

Working with collage, acrylic, and mixed media on wooden panels, Nicole builds her surfaces through carefully assembled layers of texture, paint, and printed fragments. The resulting compositions possess a wonderful sense of depth and quiet complexity, balancing abstraction with recognisable forms that gradually emerge through the surface.

Nicole studied Drawing and Painting at Edinburgh College of Art, graduating with a BA (Hons), before later completing a PGCE at The Bolton Institute.
