Peter Graham

Peter Graham ROI, RSW

Born in Glasgow in 1959, Peter Graham is one of Britain’s most distinctive and dynamic Modern Colourists. Renowned for his mastery of light and vibrant colour, he has built an international reputation for his instantly recognisable style.

Graham studied at the prestigious Glasgow School of Art from 1976 to 1980, where he was mentored by influential artists such as Barbara Rae CBE, RA, and David Donaldson, Painter and Limner to Her Majesty The Queen. Further honing his artistic skills, he explored mosaic and mural design under the guidance of George Garson.

While often associated with the Modern Scottish School, Graham’s work stands apart with its bold contrasts of pure colour, fluid brushwork, and intricate detailing. His inspirations stem from the Scottish Colourists and French Impressionists, yet his approach remains uniquely his own.

A passionate painter of light, Graham has traveled extensively, capturing the essence of his surroundings en plein air. From the sunlit harbours and cafés of the South of France to the rugged coastlines of Scotland and California, and the opulent interiors of London and New York, his paintings radiate life and energy.

With a career spanning over three decades, Graham has exhibited widely, holding a strong presence on the British art scene. He has shown work with five of the Royal Societies and is an elected member of both the Royal Institute of Oil Painters (ROI) and the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour (RSW), where he also served as Vice President. A multi-award-winning artist in both oil and watercolour, he is also the author of An Introduction to Painting Still Life.

Peter Graham’s work continues to captivate collectors and art lovers worldwide, offering a masterful celebration of colour, movement, and light.
