Arabella Brooke
She is cast from a mould using the lost wax process, and the patination is applied at the end using chemicals which are heated so they react and ‘ bite’ into the surface of the bronze.
The bronze spars give the impression of locating or fixing the energy of the figure into the physical realm. Like a 3-D grid onto which the figure emerges into being.
It brings to mind the horizontal and vertical marks made by an artist drawing on the page. Arabella is interested how the energy of a human being might be expressed better than by the simple, traditional form, and the surfaces of the recent sculptures are increasingly broken up and pierced by lines and objects.
