Ewoud de Groot was born in Alkmaar, the Netherlands, and currently resides and works in Egmond aan Zee, a coastal village in the Northern Netherlands.
Having earned a degree in illustration and painting from the Minerva Academy of Art in Groningen, he initially worked as an illustrator of nature books before transitioning to full-time painting in 1999.
Today, Ewoud is acclaimed for his innovative approach to wildlife painting, blending traditional subject matter with abstract landscapes that emphasize composition, color, and technique. His method involves layering cold bluish greys and warm brownish greys, using broad brush strokes and a palette knife to develop his compositions.
His work seeks to strike a balance between representational and abstract elements, bridging traditional and contemporary styles. Rather than focusing solely on meticulous detail, Ewoud's paintings aim to evoke mood and atmosphere inspired by the natural world.
Ewoud is affiliated with prestigious art societies including the Pulchri Studio in The Hague, the Dutch Society of Marine Artists, Society of Animal Artists, and the Artists Society of Bergen. In 2014, he was featured as the primary artist at Western Visions, the annual show and sale of the National Museum of Wildlife Art in Wyoming, USA. His work is represented in numerous galleries across the United States, United Kingdom, and the Netherlands.
