Peter Kuhfeld NEAC, RP is an accomplished English figurative painter with a notable career in the art world. Peter Kuhfeld was born on March 4, 1952, in Cheltenham, England. Kuhfeld's heritage is notable, as he is the only child of a German prisoner of war and an English classical pianist. This unique background may have influenced his artistic perspective. Between 1972 and 1976, Peter Kuhfeld studied at the Leicester School of Art. He furthered his art education by working at Rugby School of Art from 1976 to 1978, where he provided instruction in drawing and painting. Subsequently, he gained admission to the prestigious Royal Academy School of Art.
During his time at the Royal Academy Schools (1977-1980), Kuhfeld had the opportunity to study under the renowned painter Peter Greenham, who held the titles CBE and RA (Royal Academician).
While at the Royal Academy Schools, Kuhfeld earned several scholarships and prizes that recognised his talent and dedication to art. Notable accolades include the David Murray Landscape Prize, the Royal Academy of Art Silver Medal for Drawing, the Royal College of Surgeons Dooley Prize for Anatomical Drawing, and scholarships from the Elizabeth Greenshield Foundation and the Richard Ford Scholarship for study in Spain. In 1985, the New Grafton Gallery in London hosted Kuhfeld's first major exhibition, in collaboration with the painter Christa Ga. This exhibition helped establish him as a rising figure in the New English Art movement. In 1986, he was elected as a member of the New English Art Club. Peter Kuhfeld's artistic portfolio includes portraits of notable individuals, including a portrait of Harry Patch, the last surviving World War I soldier in Europe at the time. This experience was described by Kuhfeld as a privilege.
In 2012, Kuhfeld received a commission from King Charles, to paint the royal wedding of Prince William, and Catherine. King Charles has been a patron of his work, and Kuhfeld has also painted portraits of Prince William and Prince Harry in 1986.
